I put up some pictures of the ride we did over Memorial Day weekend. It was a last minute thing due the nature of contractors and decisions made after drinking a couple of large beers over some German food, courtesy of Black Forest Mill (formerly known as German Corner).
Was supposed to hit der Flagenstaffen on Saturday morning but the call from the insulation contractor changed that quite quickly during dinner Friday night. After a cancellation, Julie said I should call my friends to see what the deal was (how cool was that?). Harry answered and I made the decision to leave that night. Left P-Town around 9:30, did some last minute shopping and made my way north. Made it to camp around 12:30 am and laid down the bag for some sleeping circa 2 am after some conversation and getting to know some strangers and reacquainting with others.
Saturday morning came a bit early as I was the first to stir, or at least make a seat around the fire pit. Breakfast was had and coffee drunk and the first carbo loading of the day. Other folks slowly made their way to the outdoor kitchen where we decided what to ride. Ended up pretty much like this: Schultz, Little Gnarly, Dry Lakes, Upper Oldham, Red Onion (never ridden that before), Elden Road, Hobbit Forest, Little Bear and more Schultz Pass Road. I didn't lead at all during this ride and with about 12 others, I didn't really care where went or how we went. Skill levels of all types and my second ride on my Mary XC. I'm diggin' on that bike pretty good. Felt a bit winded hitting the altitude but whatever. Everyone was cool and those that wanted to ride fast, did and those that wanted to cruise, did.
Ended the ride with some barley pops and food. Lots of barley pops and food. Bailed early morning on Sunday as there were some things to get done at home and a desire to miss the traffic heading back south. A great weekend. I miss Flagstaff. A lot.
